Cheeseburger Hand Pies Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons sweet relish
  • 6 tablespoons shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 3 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 large egg whisked with 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • A few shakes Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 (9-inch) pie crusts, store-bought or homemade (divided into 2 rounds if homemade)

Preparation method:

Filling:

First, we will heat the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat until browned, using a spatula to break up any larger pieces. Then transfer it to a bowl and let it cool to room temperature. If you prefer, you can brown the meat up to 2 days in advance, refrigerate it and then bring it to room temperature when you are ready to assemble the pies.

Then mix the mustard, ketchup, relish and Worcestershire sauce into the meat.

Assembling the Pies:

We’ll start, preheat the oven to 400°F and line two large baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone liners.

Then roll out a round of pie crust into a 12×12-inch rectangle. Right after, cut the dough into six 4×6-inch rectangles using a pizza cutter or pastry cutter. Three of these rectangles will be the base of your pies, and the other three will be the lids.

We will, add about 1/2 cup of the meat filling to each of the bottom 3 rectangles. Then top each with 1 tablespoon of grated cheese.

Now with a brush, brush the edges of the meat rectangles with beaten egg and cover with the other 3 upper rectangles.

Then arrange the edges of each pie with the pizza cutter or dough and close them by pressing with the tines of a fork. Make a few holes in the top of the dough to ventilate the pies.

Use the brush to brush the top of the pies with the egg wash and place them on one of the prepared baking sheets. Let’s Repeat the process with the remaining dough, the meat filling, the cheese and the beaten egg.

Finally, bake for about 20 to 25 minutes, until each pie is beautifully golden. Finish by letting them cool to room temperature on a wire rack, ready for freezing, or serve right away!

Observation:

To freeze the hand pies. Then, with waxed paper, we will line a large rimmed baking sheet. Place the baked pies in a single layer on the baking sheet, it doesn’t matter if they are next to each other, as long as they don’t overlap. Freeze on baking sheet for about 1 hour, until pies are completely frozen. Then transfer the frozen pies to a full-size freezer bag, or wrap each one individually in aluminum foil. Freeze for up to 3 months.

To Reheat Frozen Hand Pies: Frozen Pies can be heated in an oven at 350 °F (180 °C) for 10 minutes or in the microwave for 3 to 4 minutes.
