As most home cooks know, the versatility of creating a burger from various ingredients is endless. Shrimp Burgers Ingredients:

  • 1large clove garlic, peeled
  • 1dried or fresh chile, stemmed, seeded and deveined, or more to taste
  • 11-inch piece ginger, peeled and roughly chopped
  • 1½pounds peeled shrimp, deveined if you like
  • ¼cup roughly chopped shallots, scallions or red onion
  • ¼cup roughly chopped red or yellow bell pepper, optional
  • Salt and pepper
  • ½cup cilantro leaves, or to taste
  • Neutral oil, like corn or canola, as needed
  • Toasted buns, optional
  • Lime wedges or ketchup for serving

Preparation method:

Step 1 – Begin by preparing your charcoal or gas grill, ensuring that the fire is moderately hot, and the rack is positioned approximately 4 inches away from the heat source.

Step 2 – In a food processor, combine garlic, chili, ginger, and one-third of the shrimp. Purée the mixture, pausing occasionally to scrape down the sides of the container. Then, add the remaining shrimp, along with shallots, bell pepper, salt, pepper, and cilantro. Pulse the ingredients just enough to chop the shrimp without making them too fine. Shape the mixture into four patties and refrigerate for 15 to 20 minutes.

Step 3 – Lightly brush the grill or the patties themselves with oil, and place them on the grill. Allow them to cook undisturbed until a dark crust forms on the bottom, and they can be easily flipped with a spatula, approximately 5 minutes. Turn the patties and cook for an additional 3 to 4 minutes on the other side. Serve them on buns, if desired, accompanied by ketchup or lime juice as a condiment.
